Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

The child tax credit will show up on line 28 of your Form 1040.

Let's be sure you are reviewing the information in the right spot.  Also, it's very important to use the IRS letter 6419, showing the advance payments they have on file.

When you go through the Child Tax Credit under Deductions and Credits, it shows only the amount you received in advance.  To review the refundable credit you can use the steps below.

To be clear, the maximum credit allowed when you file your tax return is shown below.  This will be reduced by any advance.

  • $3,600 per qualifying child under 6
  • $3,000 per qualifying child age 6–17

To review the actual credit amount you can use the "Preview your 1040".  This will allow you to see the full credit on your tax return.

You can view your entire return or just your 1040 form before you e-file:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. With the Tax Tools menu open, you can then:
    • View only your 1040 form: Select Tools. Next, select View Tax Summary in the pop-up, then Preview my 1040 in the left menu.
  3. Scroll to line 28 (see below)

@bzayas0326 If you did not receive any CTC payments in 2021 you are not going to receive letter 6419.   They send that letter out to people who received payments in 2021.  Since your child was born in 2021 and the IRS did not ever get its act together enough to allow you to enter the child on the IRS site to receive payments from July through December, you are not going to get that letter.   You should be able to get the $3600 on line 28.

"its not showing in my refund."

You don't necessarily get a refund of the full child tax credit. It's a credit that is applied against your tax for the year. If line 28 on your Form 1040 is $3,600 you are getting the full credit.

If Form 1040 line 28 is blank:

Have you entered your income? If not, enter it and see if you then get the credit.

If you have not already gone through the Child Tax Credit section of TurboTax, do it now and see if you get the credit. In the Search box type "child tax credit" (without the quotes), then click the link that says "Jump to child tax credit."

Did you live in the United States for more than half of 2021? Did you answer Yes when TurboTax asked you that question?

In the Dependents section on Form 1040, is the box checked in the Child Tax Credit column for the child? If not, TurboTax determined that the child does not qualify for the credit. You have to review the entries for that child to find out why.

"I qualify for the advanced child tax credit"

Just to clarify the terminology: The advance Child Tax Credit is the monthly payments that were sent out during the last 6 months of 2021. You did not get that. What you qualify for now is the Child Tax Credit on your tax return, not the advance Child Tax Credit.
