The IRS can audit anyone at anytime for any reason.
In your situation they are most likely questioning your income ... read the letter carefully and send in the required information requested ...in the response address all the items asked about ... if there is something you don't have then just say so by using N/A.
you cannot claim EIC, if you are also claimed as a dependent, on someone else's tax return (e.g. your parents).
With no dependents, you must have very low income, and meet certain age requirements to claim EIC.
I suspect the IRS believes you might qualify to be someone else's dependent. If so, you do not qualify for EIC. Or did you claim cash income? The IRS is cracking down on those with only cash income, to prove they received it for working.
