TurboTax technical support - there are two technical errors in how the turbotax premier desktop version is handling publicly traded stock charitable donations.
When I enter all the information for a publicly traded stock charitable donation in the step-by-step section, the resulting Contribution Worksheet form is erroneously excluding the number of shares on line 5 and also erroneously indicates "comparative sales" on line 7 even though it should report "average share price" for publicly traded stocks, which is what I entered on the step-by-step form. Those two errors flow to Form 8283.
When I override those two items on the Contribution Worksheet to correct them so that they flow correctly to the analogous Form 8283 Part I Line 1 boxes c and e, the review section of Turbotax then indicates that the two overrides on the supporting form (which won't be efiled) will create a cross-checking problem when I e-file.
Is there a workaround for this?

We have tested and confirmed the experience you have seen. It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2025" file to test this issue further.
If you would be willing to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information, please follow these instructions:
In TurboTax Desktop, open your return and go to Online in the TurboTax header. (On a Mac computer, choose Share or Help.)
If we are able to determine the cause, we'll reply here and, if possible, provide you with a resolution.
Hi Patricia, please see the attached after I followed your instructions. The state is Maryland.
Also, before I sent the file, I took out the two overrides on lines 5 and 7 of the related Noncash Contributions Worksheet that flow directly to the Form 8283, so you should see the error in the description of what was donated (there's no number of shares indicated) as well as the error in the method to determine the FMV of the contribution on that form and the Form 8283 (erroneously says comparative sales rather than average sales price).
Lastly, when I log out of turbotax, the method for determining FMV is deleted in the step by step even though I selected average sales price. However, the form for "Additional Info" under the form form "Charitable Org" has a drop down menu on Line 4 for FMV method. I selected Average Sales Price there too. And the top of that form does have the correct description including the number of shares. But these two pieces of information don't flow correctly to lines 5 and 7 of the related Contribution Worksheet, which then flows incorrectly to the Form 8283. So it looks like the programming error is somewhere between that Additional Info form and the related Noncash Contributions Worksheet and Form 8283.
Please keep me updated on the timing of the fix to the IT errors here, I'd like to file my return this month after I receive one more 1099. Lastly, if it would help, I'd be happy to talk to you and/or to IT directly if you reply back with a direct line phone number.
Hi Patricia, what's the latest on this? My returns are now otherwise ready to be efiled, but there are still two turbotax programming errors in the 8283 premier desktop related to donation of publicly traded stock - erroneously auto-populating comparable sales as the valuation method resulting in a need to override and ostensibly preventing efiling, and erroneously leaving out the number of shares donated (see the message series below).
Also waiting on an answer to this issue -- particularly the # of shares not listing in column (c) for description. (The number of shares worked last year.)
This experience has been confirmed as an issue by our development team. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and you can sign up here for updates.
