Foreign earned income: How do I add income if I do not get w-2s?

So are you asking how to enter "foreign earned income?"  If so, that's an important distinction.  I'll add it to your question title.

Are you looking for the "Foreign Earned Income and Exclusion" section?

  • Open your return and once past the blue "Simple and accurate" screen, click at the top right on SEARCH.
  • Then enter foreign earned income (without quotes.)
  • Then click on Jump to foreign earned income.
  • Next screen will ask:  Did you make any money outside the United States?   (if so, Yes)
  • Next screen:  What form(s) was foreign income reported on?

If W-2, 1099-MISC, and K-1 are not applicable, then you can chose "statement from employer (could be cash.)"   Next screen will ask you to enter the income.

Continue that interview.

What type of income is it?  Is it self-employment income (independent contractor/sole proprietor)?    If so,  do you also have expenses associated with that income?    Do you receive 1099-MISC?

If you are not self-employed, but are an employee, then why do you not get W-2's?

It's regular employment.  I work overseas in Saudi Arabia and they no longer send out w-2s.  It's not self employment.  I do not receive 1099-misc.
