I'm trying to report the amount of foreign dividend income and I cannot find that number or calculation anywhere.
This is the advice that TT suggests at this section:
"The amount of the foreign dividend received is not specifically listed on Form 1099-DIV. To determine the portion of Box 1a that is foreign dividends, look at the paperwork provided by the dividend payer. It should list a foreign amount or a foreign source percentage you can use to calculate the portion that is from a foreign country."
I have contacted my payer, which is Merrill Lynch, and they redirected me back to TT. Does anyone know how I can calculated this number?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Go to your account at the issuer's website and in addition to the 1099-DIV, look for a "statement of additional information" or a "consolidated 1099" or similarly titled document which you can download. That document will provide the additional info needed.
That information would have been included in the year-end tax package that Merrill Lynch mailed to you. As rogge1722 said, it will be in the "additional information".
