For the Child and Dependent Care Credit, after I enter my qualifying expenses for each of my kids, the amount on the "Here's What We Have So Far" screen doesn't match.

In other words, the amount I enter in response to the question "How much did you pay for X's care in 2016?" does not match the summary info for that child on the "Here's what we have so far" screen.  I couldn't figure out why the amount would differ, even after reading the IRS instructions for the credit.

TurboTax applies limitations to the qualifying expenses for the Child and Dependent Care Credit (especially in light pf any amount in box 10 on your W-2 from your Dependent Care FSA, if one), and the result of this computation is what appears on the summary screen, not the total that you entered.

As you know, there is a limit of $3,000 in expenses for one child and of $6,000 for two or more children for the Credit, and this can be limited by the amount contributed from an FSA (if one); thus, the amount of expenses that you can use for the credit will often not be the amount that you actually spent.

So long as the final amount is the correct answer, don't let the amount on the summary page concern you.
