Look at the actual form 1040 lines 16-23 plus sch 2 & 3 to see what the taxes amount comes from.
On second look that does look correct ... last year you had $2000 CTC and this year the CTC on the return is only $1500 (because you got 1500 in advance) which explains the $500 difference 2481 - 1893 = 588
If you look at last year's return vs this year's return side by side you will see the $2000 credit reduced the taxes before line 24 instead of after line 24. There are going to be a lot of users asking the same question just due to the credit placement change this year.
It is hard to say with seeing only a few numbers and not knowing your filing status nor what the credits were/are, refundable or non-refundable.
You seem to have less credits ($1,104) for 2021, do you know what those would be?
