Fed, State and FICA exempt payroll deductions

Dear experts,

What payroll deductions are pre-tax for federal, state and FICA? I have jobs in NJ and MD and I request your help with the following questions.

I make payroll contributions to:

  1. 401K
  2. Health insurance premiums
  3. Dependent care FSA

Which of the above deductions are Federal, FICA and State income (mainly NJ and MD) tax-exempt? This is not related to my income tax filing. I am trying to use a calculator to estimate my pay-checks so I can plan accordingly. My employer in unfortunately withholding inaccurately and just saying it is not a big deal if I have to pay at the end of the year.

Thank you for taking the time to help me with this question.

Fed, State and FICA exempt payroll deductions

1. Contributions to your 401k plan are pre-tax for Federal, NJ, and MD

2. Health insurance premiums that are paid through your employer are also not taxed for          Federal, NJ, and MD

3. Dependent care FSA is also pre-tax for Federal and MD, but it is taxed for NJ.

All of these items are taxed for Social Security and Medicare taxes.

No, they are not.  Health insurance and dependent care contributions are NOT subject to Social Security and Medicare taxes.

if you log into your Turbo Tax return, if your return has been efiled and accepted, it will indicate this on the landing page when you logged in. if it indicates pending, it means it has been efiled waiting acceptance. Anything else means that it has not been efiled.

To get a copy of your return to mail, just go to file, in the left navigational screen of your return.  There are three steps: 1) to pay for the Turbo Tax fees 2) to indicate if you wish to do a Direct Deposit or a Direct Debit 3) Here is where you cna indicate you wish to efile or file by mail.  if you indicate you wish to file by mail, it will ask you if you wish to Download or print your return.

Also if you reached the landing page that i discussed in the first paragraph, if you look toward the bottom of the page, you can download and print your return.
