Energy credits for filing separately

We are considering filing taxes separately but together in 2024 we bought an EV vehicle (7500 credit) and added a geothermal heat pump to our home for 10,000(3334 credit). We are not in a community property state. What are our options for splitting  these credits?

Energy credits for filing separately

For the Geothermal Heat Pump, you would split the cost  on each return so each of you would have a $5,000 cost and a $1,500 credit.  The credit is 30%.

For the EV Credit, only one person can claim the credit so if you are filing your return separately either one of you could claim the credit but this is not one that you can or would split.
