You can claim a tax credit of 10% of the cost of materials that meet or exceed the Energy Star Version 6.0 program requirements, up to a maximum of $500, for your energy efficient exterior and storm windows and doors.
You can’t deduct labor and installation costs, however.
Exterior windows and skylights must meet certain energy efficiency requirements to qualify.
- Go to Federal Taxes - Deductions & Credits
- Go to Start for Home Energy Credits
-
When asked 'How much did you pay for energy-saving improvements?', enter the amounts you paid in the Exterior Doors and Exterior Windows fields. Skylights are considered to be windows.
