I am trying to input the amount I paid for a heat pump hot water heater. It tells me I qualify for zero credit. When I go to form 5695 it has filled in the questions about where I installed it with no instead of yes. Part 2 Section A. I answered yes to those questions. I tried deleting form 5695 and filling out that section on Turbo Tax again. It is still filling with no when I said yes. Help.

The IRS now requires a Qualified Manufacturer Identification Number (QMID) for heat pumps (beginning in 2025).
If you leave the QMID field blank or enter an invalid QMID, the program may default the "qualified" questions to "No" (because the item doesn't qualify without that ID). You must locate the 4-character alphanumeric code on your heat pump’s packaging or manufacturer’s certificate.
Simply deleting the form and going back to the same menu in the program may not take care of the issue (your old answers may still remain in the software's background cache).
Step 1... How to Delete forms in TurboTax:
TurboTax FAQ: How do I view and delete forms in TurboTax Online?
Step 2... Go back to the "Deductions & Credits" section for Home Energy Credits.
The Heat Pump credit is non-refundable.
Look at Form 1040, Line 22. If that number is already zero (or very low because of other credits taken), the program will show a "$0 credit" because there is no tax left to offset.
My Turbo Tax is the version I had emailed to me and downloaded on my computer. I don't see Tax Tools then Tools then delete a form. I have tried deleting the forms then following the instructions to close browser, sign back in to no avail. I do have the QMID entered.
Did you switch to the Forms Mode in the Desktop program? Click on Forms in the top right. You can open a form and delete it there. Then go back though the energy section. You don't use a browser or log into the Desktop program.
I did use the forms tab on the upper right side.
In FORMS mode, use 'Open Form' and type in '5695'. When the form is displayed, click on 'Delete Form' at the bottom. Then step through the Energy Credit section again to let it repopulate.
Make sure your program is updated through the ONLINE link at the top. There was a recent update regarding this issue. You can also try a Manual Update.
Thank you for the response. I followed your instructions and it still won't give me the energy credit. It is filling in no to the questions I answered yes to, and my address is highlighted in red on the 5695. But it is the correct address. Anymore ideas on how to get it to work?
I received an email from TurboTax this morning asking if this answer solved my problem. The answer is no. I have updated and deleted 5695 forms and the 5695 still populates with no's when I answer yes.
I observe the same issue. The credit used to be there, but once I updated to the latest version it vanished. Deleting the form and adding it again didn’t work either.
same issue. Turbotax when will this be fixed?
Same issue here, heat pump water heater credit was there last week, credit vanished now with program updated to latest. Re-entering same valid info doesn't help. Need fix so that we can file. QMID is K3A8 if that matters.
Update: I've found other topic messages here mentioning that there is a bug supposedly relating to line 25a (enabling property which doesn't apply to my credit) and a date of March 6th which I'm unclear whether is a fix date for the form problems. Apparently people who had filed have been getting rejected.
I am having the same problem as well. Tried everything above as well and it still doesn't work. Software is up to date, tried deleting the form, no dice. I would like to file my return to get my rebate asap. WHEN WILL THIS BE FIXED?!?!?!?
It is definitely a turbotax issue and we need a patch. Look at 29 h where it is suppose to get $2k and we don't have it.
I was on the phone with TurboTax experts Monday and Tuesday. This morning I checked for updates and ran them. It now appears to have been fixed and my credit shows up.
Thanks, it just worked for me too, wish they had better communication to customers.
