On a married filing jointly return can each spouse take the EV tax credit if 2 EVs are purchased?
For example, (assuming 7500 and purchases are within phase outs):
- 2 EVs purchased in 2020 and 2 credits claimed on 2020 1040
or
- 1 EV purchased in 2020 and credit claimed for spouse A on 2020 1040 and 1 EV purchased in 2021 and credit claimed for spouse B on 2021 1040

There are no limitations on the use of the credit by anyone ... if you yourself bought 3 during the year you could take all 3 on a joint return or separate... doesn't matter. However you must also have enough tax liability to absorb the credit or it will be forfeited. So review your tax situation and buy the cars when it makes sense to do so.
The EV credit is per vehicle, not per taxpayer.
