After completion of 2025 Federal taxes, during the 'checking' phase, an error pops up asking for some entry in line 4-b-1-c of the Form 1116 worksheet (foreign tax credit). This is the line that is a follow on from deductible other interest line 4b - and that line has a zero it it. 4c asks for adjusted basis for total invested assets. I used the 'step by step' approach so I don't know why I get this error, nor what to do about it. I tried putting a zero in the box, but that also gave an error.
Please advise

This message appears when you’re reporting interest expenses to offset your foreign income. If that’s what you’re doing, you’ll need to enter the basis of the foreign assets that are generating the interest.
If you don’t have any interest expenses to allocate (for example, if you didn’t take out a loan to buy these stocks), many enter 0 or 1 if the field can’t be left blank—to move forward. This won’t affect your final credit calculation.
One more thing - Foreign tax credit is all from Investments - RIC .

Thanks, that works. Must be a glitch somewhere since I had the same tax situation for 2024 and those data fields were blank.
