Yes, to the extent that you qualify for the AOC.

The American Opportunity Credit (AOC) appears on line 29 on form 1040. This value comes from form 8863.

Thank you, but do i need to upgrade to the deluxe or is it part of the free edition calculation without upgrading?

The amount of your American Opportunity credit is included in the refund you see using the Free Edition of TurboTax.   However, to take the credit, your return has to include Form 8863, which is not included with the Free Edition.   To file your tax return, with the AOTC, you would need to upgrade to Deluxe, which includes Form 8863 (your refund amount would be the same as you see in Free Edition).   If you don't want to upgrade, you can consider using the IRS Free File version of TurboTax.   I will leave some links below so that you can decide.   If you qualify to use it, it is FREE no matter what forms your return contains.   But there are some limitations on how it works with your Free Edition TurboTax account.

What is the IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax?    There is a link at the bottom of this article that explains the steps involved in switching platforms.  It is not difficult, but you have to follow the steps exactly.   Otherwise, you will get stuck in a never-ending loop.
