Yes, you can include in medical expenses the amounts you pay for personal protective equipment, such as masks, hand sanitizer and hand sanitizing wipes, for the primary purpose of preventing the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). 

 

No, you can't deduct travel insurance as a medical expense, even if a portion of it is to cover medical expenses. 

 

It takes a lot of medical expenses to affect your refund because they subtract 7.5 % of your gross income from the total deduction. For example, if your income is $50,000, $3750 will be subtracted from your medical expenses.
