Do I list qualifying medical expense payments made in 2016?

I only used my HSA for qualifying medical expenses in 2016. Do I still need to list every payment I made to my doctors while reporting my taxes?

Do I list qualifying medical expense payments made in 2016?

If you had disbursements from your HSA account, you will receive a Form 1099-SA. The form will summarize all of your qualified medical expenses and the type of distribution that occurred. Wait for the form as it is also being furnished to the IRS.

Form 8889 is also required when you take a distribution from an HSA. The IRS has not finalized this form yet. See links below.

To enter a 1099-SA in TurboTax:

  • In your open return, select My Account
  • Tools
  • Topic Search
  • Type 1099-SA in the box then select GO
