What you paid in 2016

If you filed your 2015 Tax Year return in 2016 (as most of us did), and you paid a tax prep fee, you would now claim that payment as a deduction this year on your 2016 Tax Year Return.

Almost everything you claim on your 2016 Tax Year return is in reference to what you paid in 2016.

You claim tax preparation expense in the year that you actually paid it. On your 2016 return you would claim tax preparation that you actually paid in 2016 for your 2015 tax return.
