Deductions - Mortgage Interest - Multiple (3) 1098s due to refinance - but one is blank in Blocks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 11

Hello,

Turbotax Deluxe desktop version flags this as an error and I am not sure what I should do.

I received three (3) 1098s:

  1.  Old mortgage loan,
  2.  Refinance Loan,
  3.  From the Mortgage Broker's financial company.

The question I have is related to the 3rd 1098, Blocks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 11 are either blank or zero. Block 1 has an amount for a several hundred dollars and Block 7 is checked.  I'd assume that the 3rd 1098 from the Mortgage Broker is related to my refinance for the second loan but since there is not data in either Block 2 or Block 3, can I claim this interest that paid?

Yes, you should be safe doing that.

Please see the TurboTax Help article What do I do if I have multiple 1098s from refinancing my home debt? for more information.

Appreciate the information. I reviewed that post previously and it did not apply to this situation.

The issue is not resolved.  TurboTax will NOT allow me to file because the origination amount and date are blank. It just goes in a loop and tells me to enter the data.

Talked to my broker and got some more details.  The 3rd 1098 was my refinance loan and my broker owned the loan for the first month and then sold it, the second 1098 is from the lender that bought my loan.

Since the 3rd 1098 is for the same loan as the second 1098 and even though those boxes were blank on the 3rd 1098, can i enter the date and amount from the second 1098 as it is the same loan?

Yes, you can enter the date and amount from the second 1098 to the third 1098. Your broker with the second 1098 only had the loan for a month and the numbers should be very close.
