Deducting my home office expenses

For self employed taxpayers, you can claim home office deduction for your office as long as you use solely and regularly for business. The steps here below will get you right to that section to input square footage:

  • Log into your tax return, click orange Take me to my return button
  • Type in home office, self-employed in the search box in top right corner
  • Then click on jump to home office, self-employed (this may revert to jump to schedule c and then click it, if so)
  • Click Edit next to your business you have listed
  • Scroll down to Home Office Expense and click Update or Start
  • Go through those questions (make sure you answer them correctly) to input everything about your home office.
  • You will eventually come to page where it says How big is this home office? and that is where you will input office square footage and entire home square footage
