Our return is being rejected because "VIN' does not match the e-File database."
Last year we purchased an EV. The dealer agrees that it qualifies for the EV tax credit.
However, the dealer did not give us a copy of the clean vehicle sale form. When we spoke with them yesterday, they said that they hadn't filed it and it was now too late.
We do have the purchase contract.
What can we provide the IRS in order to receive the tax credit?

go back to the dealer. There is nothing you can do without proper documentation and the dealer filing the proper paperwork with the iRS. Another possibility is that the dealer took the EV credit and reduced the price you paid accordingly. This means you file nothing. The final possibility is that what you were sold does not qualify
We did go back to the dealer, yesterday.
They stated that they are past the deadline of being able to file the paperwork.
They stated that the car does qualify and that they did not take the EV credit themselves.
Based on the fact that they messed up a different piece of paperwork connected with the VIN and had to correct it shortly after the sale, I suspect that they simply messed up.
I hope that there is another way we can rectify this. As it stands, if a dealer does not file the appropriate paperwork, they lose nothing but consumers are harmed.
