Congratulations on buying a new home!

While the purchase of a home does not need to be reported on your tax return, as a homeowner, you receive special deductions. If you paid mortgage interest or property taxes, you may include these expenses under Deductions & Credits >> Your Home. Also, if you paid "points" to reduce the interest rate on your mortgage, these may be deductible as well (enter in the same section).

The easiest way to find this section of TurboTax is to Search on "mortgage interest" and click on "jump to mortgage interest" to go directly to the start of this section.

To see if you need to report the sale of your former residence, check the post below:
