Child Tax credit

My child tax credit is only showing $4000.00 dollars in my Turbo Tax software. Everything I have read tells me I should be receiving $6000.00?  I am married filing jointly. We don't even make 150000.00 before all the credits. Our AGI is 112K So what is wrong with Turbo Tax??'

What line are you looking at?   And did you receive any advance payments between July and December?  Have you entered two dependents who are between the ages of 6 and 17?

Federal>Deductions and Credits>You and Your Family>Child Tax Credit

The IRS is sending out letter 6419 to you.  It will show the amount of advance child tax credit that you received during 2021.  Enter the information from that letter carefully.   

The remaining amount of CTC that you can receive will show up on line 28 of your 2021 Form 1040.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

NOTE:   The CTC is indeed a “credit” that can be applied toward any tax liability that you would otherwise have to pay as “tax due”  to the IRS.

I am not looking at the actual form I am looking at my data entered in Turbo tax and what Turbo Tax is showing a credit of $4000.00 dollars. I am not even talking about any advance payments I received. Turbo Tax is showing a credit of $4000.00 for me not $6000.00. It is showing the two years side by side and they are the same. It seems to me if I should have a credit of $6000.00 it would show $6000.00 compared to the $4000.00 of last year. And then deduct any advanced payment I may have received. Perhaps I am looking at it wrong.

Please look at your Form 1040.   That is where you will see the amount of child tax credit you are still getting with your 2021 refund.   Look at line 28.

The remaining amount of CTC that you can receive will show up on line 28 of your 2021 Form 1040.
