My wife and I work and we have 2 kids under the age of 6. Last year when I filed, I was able to receive $ from the child tax credit and it added to our total refund.
I started filing as soon as we received our 2016 W-2s this year and I see I'm supposed to receive a child tax credit, but once I was done with that section, it didn't increase the federal refund.
Here are my 2016 numbers -
Total gross income is $112,557, deductions are $12,600, taxable income is $83,757, total tax is $10,636, and total payments come out to $19,234. It results in a refund of $8,598.
Here are my 2015 numbers -
Total gross income is $114,721, deductions are $12,600, taxable income is $86,121, total tax is $10,169 (doesn't show total payments in Tax History). It results in a refund of $8,854.
Am I missing something here?
