I separated in late 2020 and moved into my own house. My ex and I have 2 minor children. I claim one child on my taxes and he claims one. We filled married jointly in 2020 and elected direct payment for the child tax credit. Payments were made to our old joint account which he kept. He got $500/month for 6 month and transferred $250/monthly to my account. Because my IRS online account has the info from 2020 when we were still married, it reflects that I got $500/month in child credit (for 2 kids). I will put the correct amount I got $250/month which will differ from the amount listed in my IRS online account. Is this going to be a problem? Will my return be delayed?

Don't worry about what your IRS online account shows. You and your ex will soon each get a letter from the IRS showing the amount of advance child tax credit that you received. You will each get a separate letter. I'm pretty sure that your letter will show only your half of the advance payments. In your tax return you must enter the exact amount from your letter. Entering any other amount will cause a problem and will delay your refund.
If you are not legally divorced you can still file a joint 2021 return if you wish.
If you lived apart all year and you each have a child who lives with you for more than 1/2 the year then you could each file as HOH if you qualify.

Thank you: you are correct. I received my letter today and it indeed only reflects my half of the advance payment.
