Chid Tax Credit

My ex-husband and I split the deduction for our son, by tax year, as per the divorce decree.  He claimed him in 2020 and therefore, took the 2021 Advance Child Credit payments since they were based on the 2020 tax year.  However, I claim our son in 2021 and should have received those payments.

Is there a place to advise I did not receive any of the payments?  Will there be an issue with me getting all of the correct payments in full?

Thank you.

Chid Tax Credit

The advanced credit is an advance if the 2021 Child tax credit. He should have opted out because he’s not claiming the dependent in 2021. You’ll be able to claim the full credit . He needs to enter the amount he received in his tax return as an advanced credit he’s not eligible for. He will likely have to return the advanced credit depending on AGI.

You will be able to report how much, if any, you received from the IRS in Advance Child Tax Credit payments.

It will be possible for you to claim the child and receive the full amount of the Child Tax Credit for that child.

The IRS will require the other parent to report the Advance Child Tax Credit payments on their own tax return.

In TurboTax online, at the screen Tell us about any Advance Child Tax Credit payments, you will be able to report your Advance Child Tax Credit payments.

Married filing jointly tax returns will be able to report the payments for each spouse.

See this TurboTax Help.

And this.
