Car sales tax claims

i bought a new car in 12th December 2015, but i didn't claim sales tax for that year due to unaware of itemized deduction and i have chosen standard deduction in 2015. Can i apply for the current year sales tax in year 2016?

No, you cannot, unfortunately.  The sales must be reported in the year it was paid, so in your case, it is 2015 tax year.  You cannot enter it on your 2016 tax return. You may amend 2015 tax return to see if that entry will impact your tax return. It if does, you may mail the amendment; otherwise, there's no need. Here are amending instructions.
