CanI report rental property repair expenses

Rental expenses are deductible only in the year they are paid. You may need to amend your prior year return to report repair expenses you didn't use last year.

Expenses incurred after the property is converted to personal use are not deductible. Property taxes and mortgage interest may be included as itemized deductions on Schedule A. But other expenses to repair or maintain a personal residence are not deductible.
