For your primary home, the cost of renovations will be added to the basis of the property and will be taken into account when you sell your home.  So it is important that you keep these records.

The only possible deductions might be sales tax on the materials purchased or an energy credit if you were installing energy-efficient materials or a solar energy system, for example.
