Can you claim undergraduate expenses if you are working on a second degree?

Yes, you can claim your undergraduate expenses for your second degree with the Lifetime Learning Credit.

Can you claim undergraduate expenses if you are working on a second degree?

Yes. You can claim the Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC).  You may not claim the more generous American Opportunity credit (AOC or AOTC) because you have "completed 4 years of post secondary education".

 

There's one loop hole where you can claim the AOTC: you may count the 2nd degree expenses if you completed your 1st degree in the same year.  That is you had not "completed 4 years of post secondary education" at the beginning of the year.
