Can we claim early medical payments from 2016 for a birth that occurred in 2017? The medical procedures were not billed to insurance until 2017.

Our baby was born in January 2017. The hospital and OBGYN required us to make early pre-payments in 2016 for the upcoming birth. This was not billed to insurance until the baby was born in 2017. We have receipts showing we made the payments in 2016.
