Can my parents still claim me?

I’m an 18 year old college student, and currently going to school in Michigan while my parents remain in New York at their domicile. I’ve been thinking about changing my residency status so I would be able to pay in-state tuition rates, however my parents and I have been talking about the affects it may have on my dependency status with them. So my question, is could my parents still claim me even if I change my state residency?

Can my parents still claim me?

Yes.

You're 18 years old and if you do not pay for more than half of your support, then your parents can claim you as a dependent even if you are a resident of another state.
