Can I take a property tax deduction for both the high rent I paid for 5 months in nyc (overlapping for one month as I bought a co-op) and the co-op taxes for 8 months?

If you didn't directly pay property taxes that were assessed on property that you owned, you can't deduct it.  Although some percentage of the apartment rent represented property taxes assessed on the property owner, they weren't assessed on you, so you can't take any deduction.
