Yes, you may file an extension now without affecting the information you report on your return later. Use this link for more information on Filing an Income Tax Extension in TurboTax.

Under certain circumstances, you may be able to get an extension by filing IRS Form 2350: Application for Extension of Time to File U.S. Income Tax Return. In this case, you would need to mail in your return rather than e-filing.

Note that any tax due must be paid by the regular due date of your return, or you will incur interest and possible penalties.
