Can I estimate my mortgage interest and outstanding mortgage principal if I do not have my 1098 yet and I am taking the standard deduction? Or should I wait for it?

If you are using your standard deduction and are not trying to deduct mortgage interest then you have no reason to enter it at all. You are not required to enter mortgage information if you are not itemizing deductions.
