Can i deduct some sales tax without major purchases?

Yes. If you itemize, you can choose to deduct your ''sales tax paid'' OR your ''state and local income taxes paid''. If you choose to use the sales tax deduction, you do not need to have major purchases included. TurboTax will default to the highest deduction based on what you enter.
