No, if you're a W-2 employee, then tools for your work are taken as an itemized deduction on Schedule A, which requires the Form 1040. The 1040A and 1040EZ only support the standard deduction (not itemized deductions).
You will also need to upgrade to TurboTax Deluxe to create the Schedule A, since the Free Edition does not support this form. But you'll be able to make your itemized deduction entries (tools included) and TurboTax will calculate whether the standard deduction ($6300 single; 12,600 MFJ) is higher than your itemized deductions. If so, you won't need to upgrade.
