Can I deduct medical expenses I was billed for, but have not paid for yet? e.g. emergency room visits and hospital stays after my insurance has paid their portion.

My wife had a horse riding accident in mid-November. We have been receiving bills after our insurance has paid their portion. Can I use the bills for the deduction even though I have not paid yet

You can only take a deduction for actual paid medical expenses, not the ones that you have been billed and not yet paid.
