Can I deduct all of the taxes and fees from a new car purchase given I live in Colorado? New car was purchased in 2017.

Car was purchased in 2017 in the state of Colorado. Colorado also charges multiple fees/taxes when you purchase a car.  I paid close to $3,500 in taxes/fees when I purchased the vehicle.

Here are the locations to enter the information for car-related deductions that might be included in the itemized deductions.

Turbo Tax will ask the questions to determine if deducting registration fees will improve your refund. It will depend if you itemize your deductions or take the standard deduction.

To enter your car registration fees:

·         Please click on Federal, on the left menu

·         Click on Deductions and Credits, along the top

·         You may see a prompt for your sales tax, but if not,

·         Click All Tax Breaks and See All

·         Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid, by the green calculator icon, and select See More

·         Click on Start next to Sales Tax

·         For entering Car Registration fees, Personal Property Taxes or Energy Efficient Vehicles

·         Scroll down to Cars and Other Things You Own

·         Click on Show More
