Normally, you can only claim medical expenses for dependents. However, the IRS does allow for exceptions.

1) they need to be US Citizens or Resident Aliens. If they are Non-Resident Aliens, there is no benefit
2) Even if they pass 1), if they are providing more than 50% of their own support, there is no benefit.
3) if your parents are providing less than 50% of their own support, YOU must be providing more than 50% of their support. And at that point, YOU must itemize your deductions and only the medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your income are deductible in any event.
