Simple question, wondering if I can claim my sister-in-law on my taxes since she is an F1 student. She is my wife's sister and we are paying for both her housing and tuition. She is 28 years old and came to the US in the middle of last year. Tuition was about 10K last year.
She does not have an SSN.
Thanks.

No. To be claimed as a dependent, a person must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. resident alien, or U.S. national.

Ah, rats. And with the cost of tuition that wouldn't be enough to overcome the standard deductible either.
Alright, thanks.
