Can back property taxes paid in 2016 be counted?

Due to some health issues, we fell behind on our property taxes and paid a large portion in 2016 to help get caught up.

Can back property taxes paid in 2016 be counted?

Yes, you can deduct the property taxes in the year that you actually paid them so if you had taxes from prior years that you paid at once, you can deduct them all this year.  Be sure to include the tax only, if penalty was added you must subtract it out
