@mzheddah - the laws in 2022 reverted to 2020 laws. It is very different than 2021.

The Child Tax Credit is the LESSER of $2000 per child or the amount on Line 18 of form 1040.
PLUS
The additional child tax credit is the LESSER of
1) $1500 per child
2) 15% of the earned income that exceeds $2500
3) $2000 per child LESS the Child Tax Credit calculated above
the bolded line is the critical one - to get the child tax credit, there is a work requirement - that was not necessary in 2021.
