Can an ambulance bill count as a medical expense even if it went to collections before I paid it off? And what kind of medical expense would I list it under?

The portion you paid for the ambulance can be included.

This is a list of Acceptable Medical Expenses:

These are the limitations to Itemized deductions:

  • You can only deduct the amount of your medical and dental expenses that is more than 7.5% of your AGI.
  • Medical expenses Limit

To post Medical Expenses in TurboTax

Log into TurboTax

  1. Under Federal
  2. Select Deductions & Credits
  3. Scroll down the list to Medical.
  4. Click the down arrow
  5. Choose Medical Expenses
  6. TurboTax will tell you the amount of medical expenses you need to be eligible for a deduction.
  7. It my look like you should be getting Itemized deductions based on the raw numbers,  but after crunching the numbers it may not be the best choice for you.
