Before entering any of my medical expenses the software has picked up about $7,700 from somewhere. Any ideas on what fields feed into the total medical expenses?

The most common carry over to medical expenses is Medicare premiums. 

Be sure that that figure isn’t the 7.5 % threshold for deducting your total medical expenses.
