Been self-employed for 30 years. Recently leased a new truck for business. I separately purchased a new canopy for it. Where can I show that expense for the canopy?

Enter it as a separate asset. In order to enter your canopy as an asset, please see the following:

• Your Business page
• Business Assets
• Assets Being Depreciated, click Start
• Any Large Purchases (Depreciable Assets)?, click Yes
  
• Did you buy any items for any business, rental property and/or farm that cost $2,500 or less in 2017? No, click Continue (Note: this may be a good place to claim the entire canopy. If so, click Yes.)
• Did you make improvements to a building you used for this business in 2017? No, click Continue
• Describe This Asset, select Tools, Machinery, Equipment, Furniture
• Select Trailers and trailer-mounted containers (this works), click Continue
