I had a Balance due on federal and state taxes from 2024 that I paid in 2025. I took no extension. Can I deduct these amounts on my 2025 tax forms?

federal taxes are not deductible on the federal 1040. any state balance due for 2024 paid in 2025 goes on schedule A - itemized deductions - state income taxes, along with any other state income taxes paid in 2025.
however you'll only benefit if your itemized deductions for 2025 exceed your standard deduction. TurboTax will optimize between the two. However, if your filing status is married filing separately, both of you must either itemize or use the standard deduction
