Are medical expenses deductible which have been paid, and not reimbursed deductible? Insurance has sat on this bill of app 4k since 4.17. If paid Ins would only pay 50%.

This also involved three trips to CA from CO including air, hotels, rentals and food. Total is app. 3.2k. plus miles.

You can deduct medical expenses that have not been paid by insurance HOWEVER, if you deduct expenses that are reimbursed, you would be required to include the reimbursement as income in the year you do receive it.

Medical expenses are deductible in the year that they are paid, so if you do not include them this year you would have to amend your tax return.  If you are fairly certain that the expenses will eventually be paid, you can deduct only the amounts that you know you will not be reimbursed for (the 50%).
