Federal>Deductions and Credits>Charitable Donations>Donations to Charity
Charity donations are an itemized deduction that go on Schedule A. Unless you have enough itemized deductions like mortgage interest, property tax , etc. to exceed your standard deduction, charity donations will have no effect on your federal refund or tax due.
2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind +1600)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500 (65 or older/legally blind + $1600)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
It depends. You can deduct your church contributions on your Schedule A as an itemized deduction. First, determine if you have more Itemized Deductions than the Standard Deduction for your filing status to determine if you should itemize your deductions.
