After entering the amount for AdvCTC, my deductions doubled and now it says that I'm getting back twice as much as last year. Bug? Miscalculation?

The Child Tax Credit is significantly larger in 2021 than it has been before, so it is possible to significantly increase your refund year over year.
See What is the Child Tax Credit? for more information.
Well, our refund went from ~$7000 to ~$14,000 with 3 kids and my wife was the only one who claimed the AdvCTC ($2250). So, I thought with that subtracted, our refund should not have gone to almost $14,000.
If you have the Desktop program go to Forms Mode (click Forms in the upper right) and open the 1040 and look at it. See what lines you don't understand. Look at line 28 and form 8812.
3 kids over 6 is 3,000 x 3 = 9,000
9,000 - 2250 = 6750 should be on line 28.
I already looked at that. It did come out to that, which is $3750 more than last year. So, why did my refund go up by $7000. Seems like a double dip!?!
I found the problem. The standard deduction went up. Our income went down. And our refund this year isn't $14,000 (that was our deductions). Now it all adds up correctly. Thanks for pointing me to the FORMS.
