2021 Child tax credit criteria

What are criteria for obtaining the child tax credit for children born in August 2021?

Add the child as a dependent on your tax return in the My Info section of the 2021 TurboTax online program.  Make sure you indicate the the child lived with you for the Whole Year.

The program will guide you through entering the information for the Child Tax Credit when you are in the Deductions & Credits section of the program.

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

The software will actually automatically put the CTC in for you----it will show up on line 28 of your Form 1040.

And it should put in the 3rd EIP payment of $1400 too.   But you still need to go through the Federal Review section at the end and go through all of those questions.
